Social media marketing for Indian brands in 2026: a playbook that actually works

We have run social media for more than 400 brands across India, from legacy food companies to hospitals to D2C beverage startups. The platforms keep changing, but the things that make a brand's social work have stayed remarkably stable. This is the playbook we use in 2026.

1. Plan around the Indian calendar, not the global one

India's social feed runs on festivals, cricket and regional moments. For Haldiram's Nagpur we built the entire year around this: Republic Day, Makar Sankranti, Valentine's week, Chocolate Day, the mango season. A festive creative that lands on the right day with the right product does more than a month of generic posts. Build the calendar first, then fill it.

2. Publish natively on three platforms, not one

Instagram is where most Indian brands focus, but Facebook still carries enormous reach in tier two and tier three cities, and LinkedIn is where B2B and healthcare decisions are shaped. We run most campaigns across all three with platform-specific captions and crops, so every creative works three times. That is how a single festive campaign for Haldiram's landed on time, on brand, on every platform.

3. Treat replies as content

One of the highest-performing Haldiram's posts was a tweet-style reply card about eating namkeen for breakfast. Community management is not customer service on Indian social; it is a content format. Answer fast, answer in the brand's voice, and screenshot the best exchanges into posts.

4. Make complex things simple

For Medanta, a multi-specialty hospital group, the job was turning medical expertise into posts people actually read: thyroid awareness, oral allergies, men's health, afternoon fatigue. The rule was one idea per post, one strong visual, plain language. Healthcare, finance and real estate brands all win the same way: explain, do not lecture.

5. Short-form video is the growth channel

  • Reels and Shorts are still where new followers come from; static posts retain them.
  • Hooks in the first three seconds matter more than production value.
  • Captions on screen are non-negotiable, because most Indian users watch on mute in transit.
  • One strong reel a week beats five weak ones.

6. Report on the number the business cares about

Followers and likes are inputs. For a hospital the output is appointment enquiries; for a snack brand it is distributor and retail interest; for a founder it is inbound leads. Every social engagement we run has one agreed metric and a monthly report against it. If your agency cannot tell you what number they are moving, that is the first thing to fix.

If you want this run for your brand, our Social Operations engine handles the calendar, publishing, replies and reporting across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and X.
